Kerak
A massive Crusader castle on the King's Highway
Kerak Castle is one of the largest and best-preserved Crusader castles in the Levant, built in the 1140s on a hilltop that commanded the historic King's Highway trade route between Egypt and Syria.
Why Visit
Its scale is genuinely imposing — dark stone galleries, deep passages and massive defensive walls that later saw Ayyubid and Mamluk additions. Kerak also makes a natural stop for travelers driving the scenic King's Highway between Amman and Petra.
